MK North MP signs letter calling for MP pay rise to be scrapped

Wednesday 25 November 2020

The MP for Milton Keynes North Ben Everitt has signed a letter calling for MP’s pay to be frozen instead of raised, as is currently being proposed.

In a letter supported by 50 other members of parliament, Dehenna Davison (the Conservative MP for Bishop Auckland), wrote:

“This year has been a year like no other with the whole nation making huge sacrifices to control the Coronavirus, protect the NHS and save lives.
As the independent body responsible for setting Member of Parliament’s pay, we are calling on you to scrap the 3% pay rise we are set to receive this year and freeze MP’s pay.

When so many of our constituents are facing uncertainty, it is only right that we help shoulder the burden. As such, we sincerely hope that you will take current circumstances into account and scrap the proposed pay rise for Members of Parliament.”
The letter is addressed to Richard Lloyd OBE, the head of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority and was sent yesterday.
